Works on Paper > Turbulence 2 (series)
The paintings from the series, “Turbulence” are inspired by World War Two images of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These images shift between abstraction and representation and share a love for tactile surfaces and symmetry. Similar to Rorschach inkblots, I spill or apply paint with a brush on one side of a folded paper, press and reopen to discover biomorphic forms resembling humans, animals and plants. I repeat this process multiple times until what initially looks like an accidental spill matures to explosions of thick and delicate stains alongside looming landscapes. I build layer upon layer of paint to reveal what I internalize as the harsh realities of our time.
